Hi I did the same thing and just ran a wire to the positive side of the fan (mine was white) to a switch I mounted in the dash next to the rear defogger switch then ran a wire from the other side of the switch down to the fuse panel. I have mine hooked to an accessory lead so the truck has to be running for it to go on. The fan should also go on when you put the AC on. I use a lighted switch so I had to run a ground off the switch also but make sure you read the directions on what wire goes where on the switch. Usually the wire fron the fan goes on one end of the switch and the positive wire goes on the center lead. I provided a pic of a switch and where the wires go....Tj

SPST, 12VDC lighted standard sized toggle switches, Mounts in a 1/2in. hole with Solder tabs. Rated 10 Amps @ 12VDC. Lamp is internally connected between the load contact (ACC) & and "Ground" terminal
Terminal "+" = +12V in from fuse panel
Terminal "ACC" = White wire from fan
Terminal "Gnd" = - 12V (common)ground

when you run the power from the fuse box use one that has power when the key is off. or direct wire it to the battery with an inline fuse.

You will get the aux fan to run a lot better and faster if you tap into the factory relay, The shortcut will work, but the power load required by the fan will be much better by tapping into the relay. I tried the shortcut way as an emergancy on my way to black bear in aug. , and it got me by! when i got home i tapped the relay and the diff. in the speed of the fan was unreal!!!

Did you end up wiring it directly to the battery? What AMP fuse did you use?
