I think the potential for something going really wrong goes way up when you add kerosene. Granted you have the wand in your hand, just don't run out of quarters. :cheers:

Besides the obvious, I'm careful not to blast crud farther into places where I don't want it. Bushings and bearings and seals, and the alternator have enough work to do without me blasting crud in at 1,500 lbs.

Especially, don't squirt a hot exhaust manifold. :naughty:

Same here- but us 00-01 don't have a distributor to worry about, what with distributorless electronic ignition.

yeah but you have those crapy coil packs that crack and get water in them... then you get arcing. dist. is waaaaay better imo

I would spray mine out about every week. Spray everything with degreaser and just use a pressure washer. I detailed cars at a BMW dealership and did this everyday. It's fine to get spark plugs and distributer cap wet but don't completely soak the hell out them. You MUST keep you xj running. If not, then you will water lock you motor.

Like many others have posted, I spray mine off at the car wash. I always leave it running throughout the process... I figure if I'm spraying it and it dies then at least I might have a clue as to the cause based on where I was pointing the wand. I don't lean too heavy on the upper engine either. The bad gunk is always lower on the motor :D
