how do I identify my engine computer part num.. '96
I have 2 x '96 4.0 auto OBD2 XJ.
How do I identify the the engine computer part num in my vehicles?
The reason I ask is PDC failures seem to be occuring more frequently, (who still has a 20yr old desktop that still works!)... and I want to know how I can;
a) swap mine between the '96 if needed to help diagnose a fault...b) obtain a correct wrecker part...c) order a correct part from Rock Auto...it seems there are 4 different computer types shown on Rock Auto, unless I am mistaken, which could be the case
I have a spare Transmission Computer, salvaged from a '95...its PDC was already taken

You can call a dealership and they can look up the exact part number for you using your VIN. I did this because the part number on my computer did not match any of the listed ones. As I suspected, someone replaced the computer with the incorrect part number. The Jeep runs fine so I haven't done anything about it yet, but if I happen across a proper part number the next time I hit the local pick-n-pull, I'll grab it.
Edit - I'm assuming, of course, that the sticker on the PCM that lists the part number is either missing or unreadable.
