A/C
Hello everyone
I dont know much about cars in general so I have a question,
my a/c needs to be recharged but someone told me that because my cherokee is to old they cannot do it without doing some conversion.
So the question is: is that true? what kind of freon does my cherokee need?
Its a 1991 cherokee laredo
Thanks

When your Cherokee was produced they were still using R-12 refrigerant. They used R-12 up to and including the 1993 model year. In 1994 and after every vhehicle manufactuter was required to use R-134A. So if your Cherokee hasn't been retrofitted to use R-134A the A/C system must be converted over to use the new R-134A.
Note: You can recharge with R-12, however it will be costly.

It can still be charged with R12, but it is expensive, and if you have a leak you will just waste money. Fix the leak and recharge with R12, or convert to R134? It most likely will cost about the same if you have a shop do the conversion properly. If it were me, I would fix the leak and reacharge with R12, but have a shop do it, that way you'll have some sort of warranty.
