how do i break through the firewall?

like the title says.. im looking for a hole in the firewall that i can fish a wire throu and get into the cab.. more specificly underneathe the dash on the drivers side, like behind the pedals... help please

Be VERY careful but you can drill a hole in the rubber gromet that surrounds where the throttle cable goes through the firewall. That is where I have my CB coax cable going through.

you dont happen to have a pic do you?

BuckB91XJ Jan 27, 2009 02:16 PM

I don't. I can snap a couple and post them after I get off work.

alright thank you very much.. what im doing is mounting some fog lights on my bumper, and im running the wire into the cab for the switch.. thats why i need through the firewall.. why cant they just make it easy on you and put an extra hole or two? F-ing A-holes..lol

That's how we Jeep guys develope our skills....Making up for the shortcomings of those overpaid 50 pound head engineers....

On my truck there was actually a 1 1/2 inch hole on the driver side next to the heat vent. found it when i pulled the carpet out.

I found the easiest way to make a nice hole thats the perfect size is to use a nail on the end of some vice grips, heat it up with a little torch and poke it through melting the rubber and creating a nice little hole to fish stuff through.

thank you to all replys, i got it! Thanks again!:head::grin::):D

i know you have solved it, but for anyone else looking at this in the future:

It is super easy to use a wire coat hanger and fish it through by the hood release. there is no extra holes, and you are right by the fuse panel to wire it in!

There`s a round hole about the size of a quarter already in the firewall of my 1994 Cherokee under the dash up in the corner to the left of the steering column..I believe it had a rubber grommet around it at one time but nothing was going thru it...Maybe it was meant for some option that my Jeep never had?..I used it also to run power wires for a CB set up.
