Default how to do this?

well i bought a cork gasket for my valve cover. cause my little rubbber one blew out. but i line it up and go to turn it over and it falls off.. how can i keep it on?

a small bead of gasket sealer or Silicone in a few spots should hold it to the valve cover while you line it up.

thanks. but is there anything that can substitute, like a household item.? cause i wont have a car to leave tomorrow to buy the sealant...cause wife is taking the hummer to work.. kids takin the neon and ill be stuck at home untill i get that valve cover on. i wont be awake before they leave.

maybe i will just wait till a kid comes home. cause i dont really wanna mess it up. but Vaseline doesnt sound like a bad idea.

Any kind of "Stiff Grease" will work...
After cleaning the sealing surface on the valve cover gasket, apply a bit of silicone grease or some other stiff grease to hold the gasket in place.

it will burn off non the less right? and Vaseline will be safe then? cause i have some here and could maybe get the job done now.

I dont think any would be getting into teh oil anyway. All the vaseline will do is lose its viscosity at op temp and get absorbed into the gasket, along with some oil, to swell up the gasket.

Engine builders use vaseline for lots of stuff.

sounds good then. as long as it holds so i can turn the cover over to replace it will be sweet.. and if this doesnt stop my oil leak then its my damn rear main!!!!

Vaseline is just clean thick oil anyway. will work better if the vaseline is cold.
