is this the most horrible shackle lift ever? i bought it like this, the price was right for the whole thing... but how soon does this need to be replaced? how dangerous/haggard is this? ever seen it before?

that looks effed up..i would replace that very soon if u go wheelin alot..where did u buy that from?

SRT-10Jeep Mar 29, 2010 02:20 PM

That isn't bad you have the new adjustable hillbilly shackles.

smtippin Mar 29, 2010 02:21 PM

Search for homebrew shackles. It has been done before and that looks fairly similar to the stuff I've seen made. Of course a cross brace would help on each shackle. RC sells shackles for 1.5-2" lift shackles for $50 so it wouldn't cost much to replace. Check out this link: http://www.4x4groupbuy.com/store/day...ee-p-8877.html. The shackles are made from 1/4" steel, but have that center post to reduce any binding.

My main issue are the leaves. They are in really bad shape with the negative arching. If I were you, I'd get some stock shackles free off a forum member here and build a bastard pack from S10 leaves for your height.

course, what do I know, I've never done homebrew shackles. I have done the bastard pack though.

those are 14$ autozone shackles

blkcheerio Mar 29, 2010 02:22 PM

i got it from a private individual in cleveland (imagine that)... 2300 bucks. 98, only 135K no rust. brand new tires. brand new shocks. i think i got a pretty fair deal. i don't ro much wheelin right now. workin to save up to put a 4.5 lift with 33's and a buncha other stuff... so i'm gonna be driving it as is until probably next spring... so pretty much just drivin it to get around right now...

halmotors Mar 29, 2010 02:52 PM

That looks pretty sketchy. Add to that that the leaf spring looks like it has almost no curve left in it...

Tural Mar 29, 2010 02:55 PM

hoooollly tomatoes. that needs to be replaced the day before yesterday. rough country shackles are quite cheap and they had mine at my front door the next day. and you can get military discount, if you're military.

JerseyJeeper Mar 29, 2010 02:56 PM

Definitely not good to keep it that way. I'd god to a junk yard and grab a new set soon.

Howler_GT Mar 29, 2010 03:03 PM

I am surprised no-one asked about the portion you cant see in the picks.

How are those scary things mounted to the body?

Got a pic of the topside?

stephenmeredith Mar 29, 2010 03:17 PM

as stated, they are autozone shackles. and despite what some may they are very strong. I used these exact same shackles for over 2 years of pretty harsh off road abuse on my explorer without a problem, and now the same pair is on a buddy's trail rig holding up to even more abuse.

Those shackles will do absolutely fine until you decide to change your setup (even if you don't decide for a year).

pops96 Mar 29, 2010 03:51 PM

my buddy has them on his s10 blazer with 1tones and 39.5's they actually take a beatin and havent bent at all. im just curious on how they work on the cherokee cuz the shacke mounts different unless a cj/yj shackle mount was fabbed up

iwheeljeepxj Mar 29, 2010 04:22 PM

my buddy bought the same ****. that all that too them is what u can see from those pic if i were to use them i would put some sort of spacer at the top were the bolt goes threw. that what we did with my buddies and we haven't had a problem yet and we wheel his rig at lease 3 time a week.

semperfi96 Mar 29, 2010 04:24 PM

got mine from autozone, on my yj, lasted 3 years so far and still going strong., I welded a bar inbetween them.

U.A.V.jeep Mar 29, 2010 04:28 PM

They bolt up just like any other shackle they have a hole in them at the bottom and three in the top for hight adjustment. I have these on my jeep and not ashamed to say it they are very strong, I put a brace in between the two peices to keep them from moving. I also ran these on my full size GMC before I put the four link on it never had a problem.
