Horn Question
I just bought a 90 XJ and the person who previously owned it made a mess out of the wiring. One of the things he did was put a air horn in place of the regular horn and killed the horn button on the steering wheel. The air horn is activated by a separate button located right next to the steering wheel on the dash. Does any one know if I will pass inspection with a set up like this? I'm in NJ, anyone out there have this situation before? Or in another state with strict inspection laws. I need to at least try to get it through to get a sticker so I don't get harrased while it's parked on the street. After I get a sticker I'll have more time to mess with the wiring. Thanks!!

best thing i can tell you is to just ask a mechanic that does inspections. but i wouldnt see why it wouldnt i mean its a horn and it works right?

Yeah but pressing the center of the steering wheel is suppose to be a gut reaction type deal. I dunno, its a good question tho.

youll find that every inspector is different.....some only check lights, others go by the book.

Here in NC the horn must blow, e.g. the button can be placed anywhere within a normal reach for the driver. Much like the old 40 model trucks that had buttons on the dash or in the floor. In NJ? no idea. x2 asking the mechanic.

Just FYI
I failed for my air horn....I stupidly forgot to ask if it was cause of the air horn or because there is a separate button mounted. On my paper work it says failed for air horn so I'm gonna assume it was cause it needs to be a reg horn. So I wired a reg horn to the button and I'm gonna see how that does...Ill post if that does the trick. Effin NJ MVC laws! |
i dont have a horn in my jeep right now.
