hope to get a locker soon got ?'s
i got a 93 4.0 auto with np 242 t case
dana 30 front dana 35 rear, dont plan on goin bigger than 33's with this rig so not too worried bout rear axle, even if i do go bigger than 33's ill have another xj to dd and ill just get one with a dana 35 since it will be dd
my question is which axle should i get the locker in considering i have the np 242, my concern is how it will perform in the snow on the road with it in the front or the rear, or does the t case not really even matter?

I just put a Lockright in my Chrysler 8.25 rearend. For the price, its one of the best investments I've made. Its like a totally different Jeep. Took about two hours.

Rear is a lot easier. And the lockright is an automatic locker. I would put it in rear. If you're not doing any extreme offroading, a locker in the rear almost takes the need of 4 wheel drive out of moderate off-roading.

The Jeep axle snap u saw was probably from a Lincoln locker, which is very common. The only time I've ever broken an axle is binding the rear with a front tire off the ground.

35 is a ticking time bomb. I went thru 4 shafts, 3 driver (2 of which were Yukon alloys) and 1 passenger. Mine was locked with 33s at the time. Find a 8.25 and lock it. You'll thank yourself later when you aren't rebuilding your rear axle on the trail.

My 35 locked has yet to break snap ping pop or anything. I deff don't go easy on mine either. I'm just as hard as people with d44 and 37" tires not a single prob.
I have a detroit in my rear and it's amazing. D35 detroit and 33" works good for me even going hardcore

yup, d35 is prolly weaker than the d30. but as you know, locking the front is hell in the snow. you will not be able to steer as you accelerate.
listen to these guys, get yourself a stronger rear axle and lock that. having a shaft walk out of an axle on the trail isn't any fun.
as for a locker, unless you're competing in any events, just get a lock rite. they're cheap and easy to install.
i run one in my xj44 with 36's, but i wouldn't go bigger with one.

I drive mine pretty often, not a DD but could be if needed. It stays locked all the time which is a good thing. The only time you know it's there is making slow turns or in a parking lot. It disengages in turns and makes a ratcheting noise. You get used to it.

First time took about 3 hours. Second time(after breaking axle haha) put new axle in and install in bout an hour. I didn't take the carrier out. Just the spider gears
