Default Hood Vent and Snorkel Project

Hood Vents

I am starting on two of my many projects that I have planned for a while. First I wanna do the vents to cool down my motor a little better and then tackle the snorkel setup.

I got these vents on ebay for $8. I'm not sure if I will use these ones or get larger vents. I tested them out on the hood in a few places and would like your opinion one the best spot or if they look like shi$ be honest and tell me. I can always get larger and better vents.

Let me know which looks better...or badder....or just plain sucks. If you have a better location, share please.

Snorkel

I am going to build a snorkel that runs into the cowl area and up out near the side of the windshield, similar to the H1 Hummer setup.

Two possible caps:

Driver's side :

Passenger side:

Inside Cowl Passenger Side:

Inside Cowl Driver's Side:

It seems there is some kind of object in the way on the driver's side. Does anyone know what that is?
Oh the passenger side, there's some type of plastic object on the bottom too. I'm not sure what that is either. I can work around that one easier than the object on the drivers side. The snorkel will be in front of my inspection stickers if i use the drivers side so it seems better to route it over to the passenger side. it will pop out of the cowl about 4" (bottom of cap being off the cowl surface 4"). I have to do some measuring and see how close it is to the windshield and take into consideration rain and wipers and stuff like that. Flex hose will be used from the filter box to the snorkel.

The black cap is a 4" pvc cap that I used on my TJ's snorkel setup. It worked great. The white one is a 6" pvc cap that I feel is better for the XJ since it's a "6" cylinder (tj was "4" cylinder...makes sense ).

No opinion on the snorkle but the vents will do the most good in locations #1 or #4. JMO though.

Hey mud, I think you should go with #4 if you are going to use those vents. If there is a way that you could recess them in some, that would be awesome. This thread also needs a pole for the hood vent positions.

They actually have 3m double sided tape on the bottom. About 1/8" thick. I'm gonna take that off and bolt them down with small screws so they will be more flat with the surface.

I considered that but based on my previous mudding experience, it will get soaked and covered in mud if it were in the cowl. When i took off my tj's cowl, it was stuffed of mud and dirty and i was running on 4" lift and 33's. When it comes to mud, it goes EVERYWHERE on my jeeps. I like the snorkel outside in my view.

And for everyone information, the cap will be painted black. White is a no no.

Just wait till it's done. You'll flavor it afterwards

How about these?

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

These are 5x13. The ones i have are 4 x 8.5.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-U...spagenameZWDVW

Think the larger ones will be better? I really want lebaron vents but can't find them in any yard around here. I want to buy them online but where???

http://car-part.com/

Get email quotes contact the yards and setup shipping..

Of the 2 posted I like the Summit ones the best..those are the ones I am going to get when I get time to do it..so when you do these hood vents post up a writeup on it.. Just remember those two are plastic and designed for double sided tape as I just noticed...
