OK, so my battery died the other day at the river, I jumped it, all is good. Well, this morning I go to leave the house, and Jeep is dead(idk why, no light on, doors shut). So I jump it, it runs fine, but wont stop dinging for like 20 secs(seatbelt and check engine light stayed on). My Jeep has bugs all the time, so i figure no biggie. I drive to Mcdonalds, and right before i pull in it feels like my transmission is slipping, and gauges die, and turn signal doesnt flash. I figure Ill get food and limp it home, and figure it out there(idles fine in drive thru). Well, i turn out onto the street and again feels like tranny is slipping again, still no gauges, and when i press the gas, it backfires(has NEVER backfired before).
So I immediately pull over, shut the truck off, and then it wont start again(like a dead battery). I DID notice a pinhole in my fuel line while i was messin with it, so i have to fix that first...lol. Help me out guys, I am at a loss here....

Lol..I always play in the river...but battery died when I was listening to radio too long...I doubt its the alternator, because truck did stay running at idle...and yes, engine light was on, but only place that checks codes are on other side of town, and i had to leave my Jeep in a parking lot til I figure this out.

If the battery is bad and not taking a charge you will get all kinds of goofy electrical things to happen due to low voltage. Replace the battery and check the charging system, you should have close to 14 volts with the engine idling and no electrical loads. You can read the codes by cycling the key on-off-on-off-on, and then count the flashes of the check engine light. You may have a code 41, alt field not switching properly. If that is the case you need an alternator. My 95 ZJ kept spitting out a code 41 and the charging system was looking good everytime I checked it, but then the alternator finally bit the dust on my way to work. It turns out that after 184k miles the brushes in the alternator just wore out.

Thx for the input guys. I took my battery out and had it tested at the Oriellys. Passed one machine, 2nd one kicked it. We got to looking nd negative terminal was loose(dirt roads maybe). Got a new battery, and put it in my Jeep, made it home, but I am also flashing code 41. Good call
Battery was under warranty, just gotta get money for a new alternator. Good ol Jeep...another part off the list. Gonna be a "new" Jeep when I am done.
