High mileage problems?
My xj has just over 100k miles on it & it runs fine now, but i was wondering if there were any things that would be smart to do to prevent any upcoming problems? (that you learned the hard way)

Do you hear banjos?
Regular fluid changes and keep an eye on everything. I have 190,000 on the clock and she still runs like a champ and I know there are guys with WAY more miles than that!! I have heard 300,000 thrown around, that's just sick!!

That is too soon to need a rear main seal IMO. Check the oil filter housing for a o ring leak. They look similar in the point that they will drip oil off of the pan.

my 1993 had 200,000 miles on it and i had no major problems at all. you might need to do some gasket changes. oil pan, valve cover, diff. covers. nothing other than normal wear with mine. best vehicles ive ever bought.

The highest mileage I have seen on a 4.0l is 300,000+ on my uncles GC. And it is still goin. I would say the 4.0L is probably the second toughest motor I have seen, right behind the Ford 300-6. I have seen them run till the motor falls out and still am to run!

204,400+ on mine and still running strong. has a rear seal leak and randomly had a pressure leak in the cooling system once (think it was the radiator cap but hasnt happened since..all the coolant randomly overflowed.). other than that, im replacing the front axle u-joints soon along with the u-joints on the driveshaft but my jeep was babied its whole life by the previous owner since it was new.

I love hearing these stories. My 1996 just rolled past 99k, and I'm starting to worry about stuff going wrong, but thus far the only things I've had to change have been the radiator and water pump, but those are expected.

I have a 90 with 171,000. It has some some blow-by issues at high RPMs but is manageable with my home-made blow-by oil recovery system. When I bought the XJ, I replaced the rear main seal, pan, head and valve cover gaskets because of oil leaks. Now it runs strong, quiet , smooth and is leak free (other than the blow-by).
