hi lift thoughts
so, i recently got a hi-lift and i really wanna mount it on the hood, because it just looks bad***.
however ive heard that they are dangerous if you get in an accident with it mounted on the hood. anyone have any experience with one mounted on their hood or opinions/advice on this.
i just really cant decide if i wanna put it there lol

I.C. Got confused when he wanted it on the hood, never saw that. I would perfer mine on the roof beside the basket. I asways have a can of Krown T32(rust inhibitor, lube) in the jeeP, to keep things lubed and protected.

Mine
This picture is old but I have mine mounted in the cargo area. The foot of my hi-lift is on the right in pic and goes into the wheel well there by rear tire. (Need interior done.) It's bolted to the floor of the cargo area underneath that floor padding. It doesnt move, it's easy to get to and as you can see, all my "junk" in the back doesnt slide into the lift hatch. I can post new pics of it if you'd like but I think a lot of people prolly do it this way.

X2 on keeping it inside the jeep.... i bought one brand new...mounted it to my rack and after the summer was over.... it did not look so good.... yea its cool to show them off, but its a bummer if you can't even rack the thing up or down because all the rain and other elements have ruined the shifting mechanism like mine.......
like some other things... it only works as good as it looks

I had mine on my roof rack.... What a major pain in the butt that was when I needed it and my lower pin was all goobered up and didn't want to work.. Now after spending the cash for a rebuild kit, my redo of my interior includes a mount for the Hi-Lift.

well my thought had been to take it off when im not wheelin, and leave it at home since its my daily in the winter. do you think it would really get that gummed up if it was only on for a few hours a week.

To me the high lift needs to be mounted where you can get to it easily. Most hood mounted Hi-Lifts are secured with bolts which require tools to remove, not ideal in my opinion. I ratchet strap mine to my cage and spare tire. Best place on my rig, cause I have to use a ratchet strap from frame to axle in front, otherwise I cant lift my front tire off the ground.

Mine is mounted on the garage floor. Actually laying on it, I never have used it wheeling. One of those things I bring and leave at camp. Guess I need to find more chalanging trails and obsticals. LOL
If I did have it on my rig. I mount it inside too, and keep it out of the elements.
