help winch anyone? heat? indiana
2 things okay i have a xj lifted 4.5 inches andi am stuck in mud up to my rockers and it is wraped around my axles and i blew a heater hose so ya if someone in indiana had a winch hit me up txt or pm me 1-317-833-7637.
Okay so i put a 160 degree t-stat in my xj and it still over heats i was wondering why does is it still heat up fast i was wondering if a broken fan shround and a possible not working electric fan would cause that

Sorry cant help with your stuck! As far as your overheat goes, yes a shroud that is broken will affect the cooling rate, if there is enough damage! and yes also to an inop elec. fan. I would suspect a rusty-dirty-corroded radiatorand or if luck is with you , a bad water pump, evan if it does not leak. With enough corrosion on the impellers ,the flow rate will be off. Consider an engine coolant flush to start with, and be prepared to deal with any gremlins it may expose. I am not a fan of overly low temp. thermostats as they tend to allow too much flow and hence do not give the coolant enough time to cool off in the short period of time that it is exposed to flowing air rather than a hot block!

i did drain it all and it looked like the coolant was rusty and i was thinking maybe the water pump is bad and also the top of the shroud is off completly

My shroud was off mine when I got it. As long as Im moving its fine. But sitting in traffic or drive throughs and even slow speed in snow it starts to creep up

yeah, you need a complete shroud. but your electric fan should only come on with the a/c.
but i have disconnected my a/c so i jumped mine to come on with the key. (i should put a switch in it tho).
but if you've gone through some deep water/mud, you might have burnt out your clutch fan. with the engine hot and key turned off/out, spin the mechanical fan with your hand, it should be quite stiff. if not, it's pooched.
are you out?

Replace your fan clutch while your shroud is out. I was having heat creeping issues and broke my shroud putting in the new fan clutch, but I went ahead and ran it shroudless for a few weeks with the new fan clutch...cooled it down perfectly. I replaced the shroud later, but it was the weak fan clutch that was the root of the problem.
