Default help it shut off on me

i was driving when i had to stop at a light i was driving for about 5 miles before this happened i stop at a light my usic was on so i didnt even hear the car shut down i just noticed that my gauge was down to 0 like the car was off.

I tried to start it and the rpm stick just went up and down bestween 0-1000 rpms for about 2 to 3 times then it started. whats going on?

its a 88 cherekee 4.0L inline 6

FUEL HISTORY:
i use to have fuel related problems that wouldnt go away until i brought a pump from auto zone and i hard to eventually disconnect the ballast resistor to get the car to stay on i dont think the pump was getting enough voltage with the resistor connected i actually think it has something to do with autozones pumps i think the are 12v pumps if im not mistaken jeeps take the v pump?

my info could be mixed up or wrong but i heard that from a mechanic from just answer.com

i also ahve a new TPS, IAC and new map sensor help me out guys thanks.!!

See if it has any codes stored from "the incident".

what was wrong with all those old sensors? if you still have them then put them back in one at a time till the problem goes away, so hopefully it is a bad sensor that you got from autozone(not unheard of).

well the IAC was making my car shut off alot everytime i idled in park or in drive. the new IAC did fix this.

the TPS never really could get it right the 1st one i brought a shop said it was bad but i read online about the adjustment presidure and i didnt recall him adjusting the damn thing. he had put in my old TPS and since the car was running fine i didnt care but i kept the new TPS i brought.

months later i started having this idle issues and i read that it most likely is the TPS on these mondels i attempted to read the specs on the old TPS that was in the car and at first it was a little low on output but fairly close to range.

It wouldnt adjust any higher on the output and the input was 4.somthing
but the output was definately in the 82% range of the input ( the input didnt round of to the 5v spec though but it was 4.3somethin)

i assumed it was the TPS i tried to put the new one i had in and adjust to the right spec but it was way to high
the input was within range but the output wasn't 82% and it wont adjust to it either
started the car, with as close to 82% as possible and it was really high idle

I then brought another TPS and installed and the specs were similar to the last new one just didnt start with high idle.
but this new TPS output is not 82% of the input thats for sure

im surprised no one said anything about the resistor being disconnected i usually get alot of warning about that.

if it turns of to be the pump i think im a go with one from the dealer rather not take any more chances as this would be the 3rd time i would be replacing the pump and seriously i dont think it was the pump every time i replaced it.

thats why this time i wanna research carefully
