Did you fix this? I put a new head unit in mine and everything was fine until the orange wire rubbed the cd player and it made all the warning lights go off and on and dash lights not working neither is the tail lights. I do have break lights thou. Thanks

I'm in the same boat guys. I picked up. '00 this weekend and no gauge lights (speedometer, has gauge, Ac controls, shifter and 4wd lights, also no dome lights or running lights.) I have headlights and the warning lights such as low washer fluid, blinkers, hazards are working. Checked all related fuses and they're fine. Also had the headlight switch changed. Checked the radio and it's an aftermarket unit with crappy wires, soldered them and wrapped them and still nothing. Any help would be helpful.

Default Dashlights and Rear Running Lights -1993 Cherokee XJ

So, having same issue. Dash went out. A week later, rear tail lights. No blown fuses. Changed headlight switch to find old and new switch will activate tail lights but only in places it's not supposed too. Meaning, they come on in between but not at the switch locations. Relay is working. I have made no modifications but, this is a mail jeep so it goes hard off road every day. It is obvious re-wiring has happened previously.

Other gremlins. Heater blower stopped but has never been dependable aka, has shut off, won't work on high blow. Also, right side instruments lights just went meaning, hazards and flashers not indicating but are working. And, there is an aftermarket stereo installed that I have never used due to no antenna and, the power comes and goes from the lighted display.

My best guess is vibration caused? But where do we go from here?

Has anyone fixed this issue? Bought ready to go in debt at an electrical automotive shop.... Thanks!

I'm having this issue currently, parking lights will come on between parking detent and off, also between parking detent and headlight detent, but when I get to the headlight detent on the switch the headlights will come on but all parking lights will go out. It seems that no one on here and other posts i have seen have actually fixed the issue. Does anyone have any insight?

Default Trouble shoot and fix.

Guys. I’m new but I had this same problem. I have a 97 XJ. If your having this problem of no running lights or inside dash lights, do these things.

First check fuse 6 in the interior fuse box in passenger kick panel. That’s the fuse specific for the wiring from the switch to lights. If it’s bad replace.

If fuse 6 is good check fuse 17 under the hood. That’s the fuse that feeds power to the obd2 connector and the light switch for interior lights. If it’s bad replace.

If both are good replace the switch itself.

Normally it it will be fuse 6 or 17. Especially if you have just replaced the radio or had somebody scan the computer with a engine scanner to read the codes.

Best wishes youngsters.

i hope an old guy could help.

Did you check the headlight switch connector? If it gets too hot for whatever reason it starts to melt, and the pins can back themselves out.

Did anyone in this thread who has the problem where dash/running lights will come on, but only at the wrong part of the headlight switch (and not when the headlights are on) ever solve their problem? If so...how? I've got the same problem - after a long history of headlight switch problems - and would love to get this fixed without resorting to wiring my own switchgear.

Default 99 xj no dash or running lights

Hi guys,
I’m having the same problem with my 99 xj. I checked every fuse, all good, and changed the headlight switch. It does the same thing you all are saying, comes on but at the wrong places and not at same time as headlights. I opened the boots from the front doors to body, found broken speaker wires on both, and in the driver kick panel found a broken wire, fixed that but have no idea what it went to. I have not recently put in a stereo or anything, but my dash lights went out in torrential rain we had for like a month straight! If anyone on here has fixed this please please clue me in. I’m like the guy who earlier said I could replace the engine, but wiring leaves me mystified.....that’s me too.
