Help! I have a broken timing chain!

Hi Folks, I hope someone here can help me out. I have a 2000 Cherokee Sport with a 4.0L engine. It is distributorless, and the timing chain broke. I've tried turning the crankshaft to find TDC on #1 compression stroke, but it's not building up any compression. I feel like the camshaft needs to be re-positioned so that the correct valves are closed, but I'm not sure how or where to position it. Any help / advice will be greatly appreciated!

Crank wise there should be some mark on the block its self for saying top dead. The getting the cam right is just lining it to the mark on your crank gear. Line them both up, remove crank and cam gears and slide on new gears and chain. Rotate the crank clockwise twice by hand, making sure that both time the timing marks line up, to verified everything is lined up correctly. Some one will probably chime in if I'm wrong.
