Help with fuel leak
1 Attachment(s)
I have a fuel leak on the front of the fuel rail. Only leaks when jeep hasn't been started in awhile. When engine is turned off then stated the leak stops. My rig is a 1990 with a 4.0 the leak seems to be coming from the circle area in the pic. Thanks for the help

Sorry forgot to ask my question. What is the circle area and is it hard to replace. Thanks again
That's the fuel pressure regulator, and it's probably just an O ring that's leaking. Should be easy to replace the O rings. Just told a guy in another post earlier today to try an old fuel injector O ring since he had some on hand. Those work great from the fuel rail-fuel pressure regulator connection.
Is it leaking from the input of the fuel pressure regulator (toward the driver side fender), the output side (on the fuel rail), or, worst case scenario, somewhere on the body of it?
If the cylinder looking things is the pressure regulator, the leak seems to be coming from where it connects to fuel rail. If it is an o ring how hard is it to replace
It's easy to replace, There's just two bolts with nuts on the back holding it to the fuel rail, and then a quick disconnect on the input side, and just the O ring on the output side. You probably better get all the O rings because when you disconnect and reconnect the FPR it is likely to rip one them. Also, as I said, a fuel injector O ring works great on the fuel rail side, if you happen to have one lying around. Just slide the old O rings off, and be sure and look in the holes on the FPR to see if they might have come off inside and are still laying around in the hole, if so then get them out, Keep the old ones to get the right size at the parts store, and slide the new O rings on once you have them.

Depressurize the rail before disconnecting or youll have fuel all over.. the a breather on the rail, place a rag underneath and in front and releive the pressure..
To Depressurize the rail do you just push in on the valve like on a tire valve. When I go to the parts store do I ask for fuel pressure regulator o-ring? Thanks again for the help
Yes and yes. Watch your eyes, and like jeepsrt said, have a ragthere to catch the fuel.

i also woundnt drive till fixed..... fuel+hot engine=no more xj
Thanks you guys are the best.

so im finally getting aroung to changing the o-ring on the fpr. the output o-ring (going the the fuel rail) was straight forward but in removing the input side with the quick disconnect i think a o-ring fell out because now it is leaking from there. i can not find the o-ring and the parts store does not have a listing. does anyone know if indeed there was a o-ring that can fall out and if so where can i get one. thanks for the help

bump

when mine started leaking i found that the o-ring was still there inside the fpr and i took it to autozone and matched an universal oring to it and it was fixed
