Help: Electrical problems (Simple?)
So yesterday I got around to replacing my heater core on my 1999 cherokee, which had me remove the dash, center console, seats, etc. Somewhere along there I must've messed up a plug or swapped wires because now I have many electrical issues. For instance, when I lock/unlock my doors using the switch, the horn blows. rear window heater in always on. when I turn on the lights the rear wiper goes on with it and the turn signals, speedo, tachometer, lights behind the shifter on the floor, all of these don't work with the lights on. My guess is that there was a plug/connector that has all of these and maybe I plugged it in backwards? If you have any information of could help me out in any way I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

Wow and I thought my wiring was bad! The harness for those circuits are fed from connector C5 (someone correct me if I'm wrong) from the interior junction box on the passenger side kick panel. I would trace the wires starting from there checking for broken insulation or anything that looks messed up. Not going to lie to you repairing wiring in cars sucks, I do electrical work for a living and hate wiring in cars. Xj seems to be the worst since they run a lot of different devices off of a single circuit and the wires themselves are lackluster.

I'll have to go back over it I guess. It's now an intermittent problem so its gonna be much harder to trace down. If anyone has any other ideas that I can look into, I'm all ears. Would like to solve this issue as quickly and painless as possible. Thanks for your feedback

i personally dont think you can actually put a connector in backwards or mix up if thats evne possible, for what ive seen and thought these guys that designed all these connectors should get a little more credit with making so many differernt designs.
i would rather think some wires are wedged together on accident.. creating a funky circuit

i asume you dropped the steering column to get the dash out and tightening the column back up is a little tight underneath i would start there.. try and move gently wires back and forth see if any of those are pinched/sqeezed or stuck there should be a little play in all those wire trees..

another spot would be the steering column support link but im not sure if they changed that on the models after 96.. that link/bar is a pain to get it in just right and easy to wedge wires if not routed the right way.

I may have found something that is in common with the problem you are having; that is the lack of a ground from grounding point G107. If you forgot to reconnect the one or two black wire ring connector to their proper point the system is trying to establish a ground connection any way it can through device paths.
I’m posting the location of the G107 location next to the glove box. This post view is of the back side of the dash. I will underline the G107 location.
Please post back your progress solving your problem.

Thank you guys for the help! It seems to have been two bolts at either end of the dash that were loose. Tightened those up and all good for now. Must've been grounded out through there. Thanks!

Times two on your replying that’s how we all learn something new.
I have on question if you are still watching you post; was their only wire attached to the two ground points?
