help? d30 axle seals

after sliding my axle shaft out to replace my spindle, my housing now leaks gear oil from the passenger end of the axle tube. is there a seal that goes there or is the seal in towards the differential? at advance they gave me some little rubber o ring type thing, but i dont see how this seals the tube. also there was no seal there when i took the axle apart only a white plastic dust shield. the only wear mark on the axle shaft is on the differential end. can anyone help me figure out what i have to do to fix it?
thanks

Been there, done it. If you don't align the shafts pretty well when you put em back in the seals like to tear, really annoying :( This link should explain it.

on a '95, that should be a non-disconnect axle, the passenger side shaft is a long one-piece part. The only seal is just outside the differential casting where the axle tube enters. Sounds like you monkeyed up that seal when reinstalling the shaft. To replace the seal, you pull both shafts and the diff. carrier, insert new seals from inside the diff. That is the right way, there are aftermarket tube seals that can be used just behind the white plastic dust shields. I've never used them, not sure if they would keep gear oil in, I think the intent is to keep mud/water out of the axle tubes, to help protect the axle seals.

Ok thanks guys. I guess its time to decide about possibly doing gears and a posi or maybe a d44 swap...
