Removal & Installation
  1. With the engine cold, partially drain the cooling system. Record the amount of coolant drained.
  2. Carefully disengage the ECT sensor wiring connector.
  3. Unscrew the sensor.
To install:
  1. Coat the threads of the ECT sensor with sealant and install it into the block. Tighten the sensor to 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm).
  2. Engage the sensor wiring connector.
  3. Fill the system with the same amount of coolant as was drained and check for leaks.

I just did mine reached around under everything on the drivers side with a 13mm stubby wrench, took all of 2 minutes

Mine is a 98, I just unscrewed mine, and screwed the new one back in. I think I used a set of channel locks. Took like 30 seconds, with no coolant drainage.

The 97+ is on the front of motor near the t-stat. I think the older ones are near the back of the motor which might be different
