Default HELP Cannot open my hood?

Ok.....I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee limited (Red) and I have not open the hood in about 3 months.....I guess that was a bad idea. Now that I need to do an oil change, I cannot open the hood. I have tried everything and the cable release will not pop the latch on either side. I have removed the headlight looking for access to the latch and must be missing something, as I have read other places that there is a way. Any help and/or suggestions would be very helpful

Thanks

AJ

does the cable feel like its doing anything?sometimes if you push down on the hood the release will latch fully and unlatch after.if the cable feels dead you may be screwed

Seems like you would be able to reach up from under the engine bay and release the latch, I know I can reach the bottom of the engine bay from the top...

if all else fails, hope the junkyard has a red hood :P

I have heard the failures of the latches. Soon to install hood pins.

I ran into this once on my 97. The crossbar broke on a really cold night. Had to pull the grill to get it open again, and then braise the rod back together.

Pull handle has been dicey ever since.
