help buildin engine

Default help buildin engine

im outtin together my 4.0 and im trying to put the rocker arms on. this may be a dumb question but do i need to have the number one cylender at tdc to do this? and if so how do i find it without having the distrubuter on?

No, you can torque them down without rotating the engine as they are not adj. I however do rotate the motor to close intake and exhaust valves as i torque them down-Just my way of doing things out of habit.

That is if the timing chain is hooked up. You did hook that up right?

yup chains on. i didnt think it made sense to me but the book said to and it only said how to get tdc wit the distbuter. thanks for the help. this is my first engine build if you have any special advice on anytyhing easy to miss i would really apprecat it

Cam gear and crank gear both have a dimple as reference points. Make sure they are correct or your not going to get the motor to run properly if at all

Anyways u can easily find tdc with your finger in the spark plug hole sensing the air compression or with a screwdriver until u feel the piston.
