I just acquired a 1996 Classic. The heater and A/C do not work. I'm not worried about the A/C. The blower motor works. Obviously I'm not getting heat from the defroster, heat or vent settings. There is a cable connected to some sort of divert-er or valve under the passenger side dash that is sticking. Also there is a linkage at the under hood heater valve sticking. Is there a way to narrow this problem down? Can I physically move the linkage and valve to a certain position? Any help will be appreciated.

That "divert-er or valve under the passenger side dash that is sticking" is called a blend-air door. What do you mean by "sticking"?
When you move the TEMP slider on your climate control panel are you saying you feel resistance to movement?
If so, disconnect the cable at the bell crank at the bottom of the HVAC Unit and try moving the TEMP slider. If it slides freely, try turning the bell crank by hand. It should turn freely. If not, the blend-air door in the HVAC Unit is stuck.
