Default Is Heater Core Active On Vent Mode?

Hey guys,

'96 manual 4.0. I live in California and never slide my climate control selector to the "heat" setting. When I am in cold weather, I will slide the temperature selector over to the red but keep the other slider on the "vent" setting. I'm wondering what the difference is between doing this and having it on heat mode.

P.S. my year has the heater control valve.

Heat is controlled by a blend door actuated by the sliding lever that's blue on the left and red on the right.

What's the point of the "heat" setting, then, if I can get the same result from using the "vent" setting with the slider in the red?

And thanks for your reply on my other thread, I will be deleting the HCV!

Yes.

Unless there's an issue with the vacuum controlled vents. Happens all the time because of a vacuum leak in the system below.

Interesting - I don't think I have a vacuum reservoir on my 95 - or to put it more accurately, I think the vacuum reservoir was removed. When I bought it there was nothing but a steel bar for a front bumper that the PO had welded on since the Jeep had obviously been in a minor accident.

Should I be concerned that the reservoir is not there (as far as I know)? The Jeep runs really good and the heat definitely seems to work fine.

If it was a problem not having one I would think you might notice it with some of the vacuum assisted accessories when your accelerating. Vacuum drops then and the accessories depend on the reservoir to keep them operating. I'm going to try a smaller one on mine due relocating it. Cruiser said I could have issues with cruise control if I had it. I don't. Maybe you can get by without it.

Hot air rises, so if you have the hot air coming out the vents, you get a face full of hot air and freezing feet. It's not really noticeable at 50°, but during actual winter (i.e. 15°) with the heat cranked, you'll definitely notice it. Same with the A/C in the summer, but backwards. You'd chill your feet while the upper part of the cabin was roasting.

Without the rezzy, your heater will default to the defroster vents under load or heavy throttle.

Hmmm - it doesn't seem to do that so maybe the PO relocated it. I'll have to follow the line and see where it's going.
