Default Headlights go bye bye......

While on freeway, my headlights completely shut down. Pulled over, checked fuses and for signs of any frayed wiring. Everything ok( unless wiring INSIDE protectors is bad). Headlights would intermittently come back on but now completely won't come on. Tail lights and parking lights still work...... no headlights or hi beams. I'm thinking (hoping) it's the headlight switch (original) but thought I'd ask you gurus for your opinion...... thanks for any help you can send my way....Mike

Headlight switch was my first guess. That and/or the connector at the switch. Is there a large connector in front of the airbox? Headlights pass thru that, and can become corroded. What year is it?

Hey pez, this link has the connector that fb97xj1 is talking about http://cruiser54.com/?p=35
And when you get a chance take a look around that site lots of good info there I'd start with tips 1, 4, and 5 once you clean that connection up.
Good luck.

Also I agree with the headlight switch of connection to the switch being the culprit. I'd replace the switch and contact jhc7399 on this forum for the best price you'll find on a harness upgrade

When they are not working you might take a shot at reaching up and jiggling the plug on the switch. Might tell you something. Best of luck!
