Default no overdrive

New member here. I recently bought a 92 xj 4.0 for my son to drive. Jeep runs great but does not go into overdrive. I have adjusted the kickdown cable - still no OD. What should I do next?

OD is controlled by a solenoid that it turned on by the computer so you first need to make sure that the computer is commanding OD.

on chryslers the cable is throttle pressure not kick down.

EDIT: I'm sorry... I misread the post. It's been a long day. I was thinking cruise control.

true...if the cable is not properly adjusted on chrysler transmissions it can burn up the transmission because it controls pressure rise.

A gauge it the prefered method but as long as you have downshift at 3/4 throttle and a good shift you are usually ok.......

unless you live near Indy and use my test equipment...LOL.....you should pick up a COMJPUTER SAFE test light and check to see that you are getting signal to the sol.

I would recomend that you spend the 18.00 and get a year of alldata so that you will have the wiring diagrams and all of the specs and info you could ever want.

If you have a scanner that can read the TPS (I know that it can be checked with a meter) then you can start there....if you check for a signal from the computer you will know if you have a transmission problem of a vehical problem.

I just reread your post and I realized that you have a tranmission that only uses a sol for lock up.....if I remember right they started using a sol for OD around 94.
