Headlight upgrade
 

so the other night I was driving home with my high beams on and I came across another car. I completely forgot about them and the car sailed by me with no problem. that being said I've also noticed my lights aren't very bright as they were when I first got her. do any of you have a recommendation for headlights that won't cost me an arm and a leg?

H4 conversion is a good choice. I think mine was around $80 or so. Putco wiring harness, autopal e-code housings and Hella 80/100w bulbs.

A more expensive option is an hid retrofit. My original setup was around $200. Here's my write up on them. There's also a comparison of the h4 conversion vs the hids in it.

Just upgrading the headlight harness for about $40 and keeping your stock headlights should give you a big improvement. the power for the headlights goes through relays instead of the headlight switch. Takes about 30-45 minutes to do the job. LMC truck also sells a harness Part # 36-3580 $29.95 or about $40 shipped to your front door.

I did this, except I got a good deal on the ARB harness and went with it instead.

The harness solved the dim lights. Shoulda done that years ago.

The e-code housings have a much better cutoff than stock. Overall my lights are better than they were new.

Do the harness, then re-evaluate. It may be all you need to do.

If you decide you need more, well, no harm done, because you really, really need to do the harness upgrade before any headlight upgrade.

thanks guys! looks like I will be doing my wiring harness, I will check out all the links once I get home and have some faster internet. I'm not that electronically inclined, is this a difficult thing to do?

I'm pretty happy with my TruckLite LED headlights, which were a plug and play swap without the need for a harness. You'll only really need the harness if you run high-amperage headlights.
