Headlight problem

My headlights started turning off every once in a while when my high beams are on and now they do it all the time even on low beam. Why do they do this and what can i do?

Not sure if this is the same in a xj but my old exploder and dakota did the same exact thing. Replaced the switch in the dash and problem solved for both of them. Get a new switch and try it right away. Not a good feeling having your lights turn off while going down the road.

I would replace the switch also but headlights will cut off if they get to hot. I have a 4wheeler and a f150 that does the same thing, in the middle of summer, if i run the high beams for long periods of time.

Could be your headlight relay overheating.
