I just removed and recovered my headliner. If you want to recover the headliner you have to remove all the molding, sun visors and grab handles around the perimeter of the headliner and then there are 4 metal clips that support the headliner. Carefully remove the headliner from the clips and have some help you support it while removing or it will bend and break. I put mine on a couple of saw horses on a piece of plywood and then proceeded with removing the old headliner material and foam backing. I found it easiest to remove the old material with a palm sander with 60 grit paper, just be careful and keep it flat or you will burn through the foam and into the base material. It took 2 of us about 2 hours to prep the backing for new material. I picked up 3 yards of material for $30 from a local upholstery shop and some weldwood contact cement ($10 qt) which I use in an old spray gun to apply but you can roll it on also. You need lots of room to lay out the material and headliner to apply the contact cement. I had some old cardboard boxes that we split open and laid in the driveway for the new material to rest upon. Coat the base and the material with contact cement and let dry for about 10 minutes and then have someone help you place the new material on the base.

Damn! Are you sure you didn't buy a new head liner? But, Really you did a nice job
|
Or you can go to the JY and pull one. A lot less work and a lot less time consuming, and probably cheaper ;-)

Is the headliner board really that easy to break?
