What is the cause of the headlights on low are dim and when you switch to high beam there is only little improvement?

Hey EZEARL, It has not always been that way. Developed a week ago. The way I think is to track through harness to light switch - which may be the problem and replace. Need XJ on road and it is freezing here.

Communications are working fine.

Very possible it's the on/off switch. If possible and if you haven't already done so install an aftermarket harness before replacing that switch. PM the member in post #1. There are other harnesses available I believe all are priced higher than his.

Headlight harness ugrade is among the top five things that have to happen to a Jeep almost immediately upon buying one.

Jackson54 - It's freezing here too! I just bought an XJ and one of the first things I did was order a headlight harness. It's in the mail but I'll be installing it as soon as I get it ... despite the cold . I upgraded my MJ this past summer and the difference is significant.

Like others have said get a upgraded headlight harness.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Cherok...ZZ5rIr&vxp=mtr

After or before harness install.. Check the headlight/lighting connector under the air box on the left side of Jeep..

Look for this plug.

Pop it open and look to see if it is corroded, clean and refresh .

Running a dedicated headlight harness powering 4H/E-codes is the way to go. Huge difference.

Best thing i did to my xj is went with aftermarket shells, and LEDs headlights.
I got best headlights you ever seen no shadows, and bright as my led cubes on low without blinding people.
