Haul a rear hatch inside if an XJ?

Anyone ever haul an XJ hatch inside of an XJ? I'm looking to pick up a replacement hatch off of CL. Original hatch still works, but is cracked and beat up from an accident 15yrs ago (previous owner).
Measurements look really close and I'd like to avoid strapping new hatch to the roof for the 2-hr drive home.

If you put the rear seats down and angle the hatch in there it'll definitely fit.
