Gotta know when to let go of rusty vehicles. My dad had a 2000 blazer that was from new york and basically no place wanted to touch it as you whack the chassis with a hammer and clumps of rust falls out lol. If the jeep is rusted it isnt any better plus a danger in some cases. But a rusty jeep doesnt define it as being a horrible vehicle just one out of a thousand are gonna be a lemon.
edit: Oh on the blazer thing looks brand new but doesnt hide whats happening underneath. He was driving down the road and the upper and lower control arm completely tore away from the car and almost rolled it. Rust is cancer.

There comes a point in time when its best to call it quits on a vehicle and stop wasting your time with it. And your money. When a vehicle becomes nothing but problems for whatever reason, then sell it, scrap it, or part it out. Get rid of it and buy something else.

With the XJ, the lug nut cap snaps off. Now you have a STRIPPED lug nut.
Your method does not apply to the XJ, just regular cars that regular people can work on.
Any XJ repair is a total nightmare that even pro mechanics REFUSE to work on this car.
Too difficult. They don't have the time.
This car is only meant to be repaired by someone with a professional garage.
Took the mechanic 3 hours to drill out the lug.
I can't even remove the front wheels without paying someone potentially 15-20 hours in labor ($2000 to remove the wheels, cheaper to own a Ferarri)
That's more than the cost of the entire vehicle, Just to get a shot at trying the brakes yourself.

One of them was stuck and the cap broke off . . . I am pretty much done with this Cherokee.
Cherokee has consistently been the biggest nightmare car I have ever owned.
Basically impossible to do even the most basic repair on it.

When the lug nut cap comes off (happens all the time) the structural part of the lug nut remains on the stud. Next size smaller wrench works fine on it. Now let's say somebody uses a wrench that is too large to fit on the now capless lug nut and somehow by the grace of god rounds it off. Now what? Grab a thread extracting socket which will bite into the rounded nut and reef on that fudger till it comes off or something breaks.
So something breaks and it doesn't come off. Crap, now what? You have a rounded lug with a thread extractor socket stuck on a stud that is inside a wheel. Time for more drastic measures. No professional mechanic in the world would reach for a drill. Every one would grab their oxy-acetylene torch setup and melt the stud out in a matter of minutes. That could damage the wheel but a new wheel is cheaper than hours of labor drilling a lug nut stud.

Isn't the normal use tire rotation interval 7500miles? Once you fix your problem or replace a rim this should never occur again unless it sits.
