Default hard jerk/rattle when letting clutch out

1992 cherokee l6 AX15 5-speed

When I let the clutch out from a stop the transmission rattles/vibrates/jerks really hard until the clutch is all the way out. It does this when starting in 1st/2nd or reverse so I think its a clutch issue. Once its going in gear, she rides really smooth and shifts fine. I originally thought it was bad motor mounts letting the motor shake, so I replaced motor and transmission mounts. No luck. Still shakes and is shaking the new mounts loose.

The clutch master cylinder was replaced earlier this year. Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on what is going on. Is this typical of worn out clutch plates?

Thanks,
Dave

I never had an JX with a manual trans. But, my 65 Chevy P/U had the same problem and it was the throw out bearing.

You could have oil on the flywheel, clutch disc, or cover. Rear main leaking? Dust shields/inspection covers on the bell housing?

Still working on getting a video up. It shakes so bad sometimes, it feels like the engine and transmission could drop out of the car. It's not leaking oil now (if you can believe that!), but previously had a vicious valve cover leak running down the rear of the motor. So I suppose it could be oil on the flywheel.

Another possibility I'm weighing is there is a lot of play in the rear driveshaft slip yoke. If you push up and down on it, it moves and "clunks". Does anyone have experience with the rear output slip yoke or accompanying bearings and bushings going bad? Maybe this is causing my vibes instead of my clutch.

Thanks for the help!

Sounds like it has a broken spring on the clutch plate!
