Both my 92 and 96 have selec-trac. You should be fine using command trac in the snow, just not on dry pavement.

My Cherokee has Selec-trac, but I'm not selling!

Yes, you can use Command-trac 4 Hi in Snow.

You might want to hold out for one with Selec-trac. I LOVE it - when I'm in a hurry and moving around people with non-existant reaction times at stoplights and stops signs, especially in rainy weather, I love running it in the "Full Time" all-wheel drive position - I can FLY away from a stop, way faster than anything without all-wheel drive can even begin to keep up with.

is either one better for off roading? this is not going to be my daily driver this is going to be something for me to mess around with. i'll use it to drive the kids to there games on weekends maybe a road trip a few times a year but mostly for off roading. plan on putting a lift on it and some 31's.

Command trac is stronger but only by a little bit. Select tracs are less common XJ and more common in ZJs. One thing to consider if you plan to ever lock the front you have to use a selectable locker. Lunchbox or autolocker in the front, negates the FT function.
