ground short

I have a 1997 jeep Cherokee and it seems to have a ground short coming from the wire that runs from the front of the motor fuse box to the positive post on the battery what is that wire for

The "motor fuse box" is called the Power Distribution Center (PDC) and the main positive going from the battery goes through a fusible link (a special connection that is supposed to melt and open the circuit should it encounter a short to ground). It is responsible for feeding the main battery positive to most, if not all, of the items in the PDC.

I seem to not know what a ground short is...a short to ground?
