Grinding
Howdy,
I have a 96 Cherokee 4x4 with a 4.0 and an auto trans (Aisin) with 90,000 on both the engine and tranny. When I punch the gas hard, a sound like grinding is heard from the engine compartment (I think that is where is originates). Consequently, I never accelerate hard, but I want to. Any ideas?
Also, the transmission recently dropped from OD to third twice this week for no reason: my speed was constant. The weather did turn colder here this week. Could the cold weather have thickened the fluid, causing the shifting to be erratic?
I did pull a 5X8 uhaul with a bed, couch, coffee tables, and other things that didn't completely fill the trailer so there was not Much weight being pulled.
I am a convert from Landcruisers to Jeeps and would appreciate any advice.

Engine: 4.0
I had to replace both motor mounts and trans mount
cus when I hit it hard of a stop the motor would shift and the fan would hit the shroud
