Are grilles interchangable?
Does anyone know if you can mount a pre-97 grill on a 97+ XJ? Has anyone done this? If so, could you post pictures?

If you're talking about a header panel then yes. The whole "front end" of XJs is interchangable. Do to so you need these parts: fenders, header panel & grill. headlight trim, and the marker lights both sides and bottoms. headlights, headlight buckets and everything interchange. the newer Jeeps use different bulbs for turn signals than the older ones. You need the older style fenders because the grill shape doesn't match the newer ones.

I'm talking about literally just the grill. The vertical slots that mount between the headlights. I just thought it might be a unique look. Has anyone done it?

The older style like my 85 have just the grille part. where as the 91 and above have the header attached. i'm sure you could find a way to cut it, but it will not be direct pre 91. If you would like a pic of what i'm saying let me know and ill snap one. Or hit the junk yard. I have learned quite a bit there. Plus if you make a day of it you can take a grille off an older one, and mount it on a newer one to see how it goes.
lol I have too much time on my hands sometimes..
