Good battery brand for jeep cherokee?
Just installed a new amp and stereo for the jeep and the battery can't seem to handle it. I cut off the car then cranked it back on, wouldn't start, check the voltage of the battery and it was DRAINED! I was planning to replace the battery and was wondering what are some good brands for a 91 jeep cherokee??

You might also want to get a high output alternator and upgrade your wires.
I have a sound system also so I would like to know what a good battery to use it. I'm thinking a deep cycle like for winching because of the amp draw but don't know much about batteries.

Optima's are overrated IMO. But its what you like I guess. I picked up my 1000CA battery from Costco for like 60$ Stinger batteries are great as well.
But as others have said, I would have your alt tested/possibly install a higher output amp.

I always say get the battery with the best warrenty...but if a deep cycle is needed than optima is a great choice. although pricey they tend to last a good while. But of course user results will vary.......

OPTIMA!!!!!!!!!!
the first optima battery I had I found behind a dumpster and charged put it in my truck and never had a problem. The second truck I had the column was messed up and sometimes when you turned it off it was really still "on" and it would kill the battery, I ate through 3 WalMart NeverStarts before I bought an optima and never looked back. I would go out in the morning jump it run it for five minutes then turn it off and would never fail to start again until I didn't make sure it was all the way off and it would drain again. This truck was in a fire and I was able to save the battery (it was just a little charred) I put it in my garage and a year later slapped it in my jeep and the damn thing started without a jump.
Look at a dual battery setup with a switch. Some of the guys in the forum have done it for a winch. You could make it where you could switch the red top optima off and just use the yellow so you won't drain your starting battery.

SuperStart from O'Reilly's. The biggest they have that fits. You don't need a $200 Optima. Don't buy a Neverstart from WM.
Deep cycle batteries are for golf carts and trolling motors. They are not engine starting batteries. You don't need one for a Jeep, with or without a winch/sound system.

If your running an amp I'm assuming you're running subs to go with it. Do you lights dim when the bass hits? If thats the case look into a cap. X2 on the upgraded alternator and wiring.

optima imo. i've had one that used to be in my dodge ram that i had a complete audio/visual system in that had 2 1000 watt amps in it. never had a problem with dimming or battery drain. of course i upgraded the alt and the i was running 00 gauge wire too. i'd replace the alt before anything and make sure you have everything grounded good.

I've got to buy a battery & am trying to save enough coin for the Optima Yellow top. I stopped in at Advance Auto & they said they'd stay away from the Red top. They had a few come back that won't hold the charge.
I had a red top in the BlaZeR2, and it was doing that before I sold it. Just a heads up.
This seems to be the best price so far. Advance Auto wanted $204 for a yellow top.

buy a capacitor, and upgrade your wiring in the engine bay. The cap will store a charge when the amp is not needed, so when you hit a big note that pulls a lot of power, it pulls first from the capacitor, then from the battery. This in turn works your alternator less, extending its life. I run a 1 farad cap in mine, upgraded wires, and a 1040 cranking amp super start from oreilly's (its made for a truck, but i made it fit). good luck
edit: if you can install an amp, you can upgrade the power/ground wires going to and from the battery. Its very simple

optima is a dry cell gel battery. you can mount them upside down, on their side, whatever. it's the best type you can get.
now, yellow top is a deep cell, red top is for cca, and blue top also deep cell, and is marine, good for bouncing around, excellent shock resistance.
you could also look into odyssey batteries. same type of dry cell battery.
but yeah, you should also get your alternator upgraded to 120 amp or better. any alternator shop can rebuild yours with upgraded parts.
