I have a '95 XJ. I fitted new glow plugs 2 months ago, it's been starting ok until yesterday and now the glow plug 60amp fuse has started blowing. I've taken the wire off the glow plugs and when I turn the ignition I have power to the end of the cable and it doesn't blow the fuse. When I connect the wire back to the glow plugs and turn the ignition, it blows the fuse again. Any ideas what the problem is? Thanks.

 

I would have to say you have a bad glow plug.

 

Thanks for that. I will check them but I was under the impression that when a glow plug went down, it only affected that plug and didn't affect the rest of the system?

 

if the glow plug is shorted to ground it is going to blow the fuse for the circuit that controls it.

Just to let you know that I took all the glow plugs off, tested them and couldn't find anything wrong. I put it all back together again and it works perfectly!
