Gets hot when idling/ stuck in traffic for long periods of time.
This started about a week ago with a trip on the highway. I was stuck on traffic for about 30 minutes and the engine got stedily hotter. I was worried when the temp got about 210 by about 1/4 inch past the 210 mark so I turned the heat on full blast. It helped control it but didn't really lower it much. When I got moving again it cooled off. Same relative situation today. When sitting for long periods it starts getting hotter. I just don't need this thing to oveheat on me. I flushed it a couple months ago, but not very well. And when I filled it back up with mixe it's like a 60 antifreeze 40 water mix because winters can get really cold. I bought a new thermo and I'm planning on putting that in. Any suggestions as to what it could be?

Does the E-fan turn on, should at 215 deg and when the Defrost or ac is on? Could be the mech fan clutch also. Do the T-stat and check the fans.

I think the electric fan does turn on with the ac and defrost as I get a spike in my rpms every now and then. Not exactly sure as the time, but it's consistent. As for the mech fan, I'll check that tomorrow as it's still hot from driving around and prom is tonight.

Sounds like the fan clutch, I had the same problem with my 96. My mechanic friend said to hose out the radiator from the inside out to clean the dust and bug. That did not help much. I noticed when looking at the fan blades, they were not turning as fast as the surpentine belt and pulleys, so I changed the fan clutch and the overheating problem went away.

I had the same problem in my 98 cherokee turned out to be a bad seal on the thermostat housing allowing air into the system would have never known it the housing wasn't leaking.
