gears
hi i need some help to find out what gears i have on my dana 44 i got from the junk yard. i know that you count the number of teeth on the ring and then you count something else but i cant remember. there are 46 teeth on the ring gear, does anyone have a clue on what gear ratio i have?

divide the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion gear.
so if there's 12 teeth on the pinion your geers are 3.83:1 46 divided by the number of teeth on the pinion gives you your ratio. |
do you know anything about the jeep it came out of? such as auto or manual? 4 banger or 6?
|
i didnt really pay any attention to that i think it was a automatic inline six

most likely 3.55s or 3.73s. id do the count the pinion teeth and ring teeth and do jpdocdave's idea and then the above numbers should kind of get you in the ball park range. hope that helps

and count the ring gear again, 46 divided by anything doesn't come up with any normal gear ratios
|
should be stamped on the ring gear
