Gears and 35's

Default Gears and 35's

Is any one here running stock gears (3.55) with 35's? I have a rear axle regeared to 4.56 but its gonna be like $550 after parts and labor to match the front and less than half to put the rear back to 3.55 gears. looking for some feed back thanks in advance!

I dont have 35s or anything like that but you might as well have the other axle regeared to 4.56s youll be happier with it and itll save you money in the long run by not having to have them regeared again after you realize you made a mistake of bringing it back to stock. but thats just me, maybe someone else actually has experience with 35s and 3.55 gears.

I have run 3.55's and 35's and it wasn't as bad as it may seem. Not a lot of overdrive on the highway though. It's do-able until you can afford regearing.

i put 456s on 35s in my jeep and it feels like it has more power than with 355s on 31s. i can roll into the throttle going up a hill and itll stay in overdrive. i know money is the issue but the 456s will be worth it, but honestly if your going to put 35s on it i would put 488s in it, it seems too high but after putting 456s in mine ill tell you the little extra gear on the bottom end could help to get the heavier tires rolling a bit easier,

i bet you are going to get sh***y mileage with that high of gearing and youll have alot less bottom end power. 31s are the most i would run with 355s until you can re gear, of course that depends on what you have for parts to work with


who are you having do the gears? regearing should be close to the same price no matter what ratio, putting 456s in is no harder than putting 355s in, its all a pita to do lol. i would suggest buying gears from some place like randys ring and pinion, i bought their cheapest set and they are fine just a bit noisier than the yukon set. then take your gears to a shop and tell them to put them in. just make sure its someone who can do a good job, not a garage shop out of cal city

hey whats up guys, not tryin to steal you thread but I have a gearing question. Im gonna be runnin 33x12.50's on my xj, what gears should I get? I want the best gas mileage and use offroad I can get. I was thinkin 4.11's? or should I go 4.56's? thanks for any help.

yeah I'm running 32's on 3.55 gears now and its not really a problem id keep doing it all day long too because I didn't even notice a loss in power with em... as far as gearing goes when u re-gear the problem is that to go to the 4.56 gears from 3.55, 3.55 was the cut off for the smaller carrier, now if i want the 4.56 gears in my Dana 30 in the front end not only do i need new gears but also a new carrier, so whats probably gonna happen is saving the money and instead of buying a $100 carrier ill buy a cheep $150 lunch box locker then re-gear at the same time.....as for who is doing the work, there is a local group of the tin benders here and run a shop called "Fabrication Unlimited Squared" (FU2) and they are only charging $150 for the install (awesome price and great guys, highly recommend for any off road/race fabrication work) but I have to come up with almost $400 in parts first

tell us more about your jeep? motor? tranny? and what you want to do with it?
