gear swap this wknd!!!ADVICE NEEDED!!
swapping my stock 3.07's for 4.56's in my 94xj's 8.25 rear end......this wknd!!!
should i order a complete rebuild kit for my rear end or should i get piece to piece from parts store?? any experienced advice would help alot!! thanks |
I would get as a kit,it will save time and trips to the autoparts,then you will have it done.

Its a 4x4 right? Then you are doing the front to?

Make sure you have a few required tools, like a bearing puller, a press is real handy, a dial indicator a must and all the backlash specs a must.

First of all, Mike Albo asked a very good question you need to seriously consider. If you are going to do the rear gears only at this time, I highly suggest you remove the front drive shaft until you are ready to swap the gears in your front axle.
In addition to the other tools stated above, you will also need the spanner wrench tool required to adjust the ring gear main bearing adjusters in your 8.25. If you are doing axle gears for the very first time it is not advisable to do them yourself. This isn't something you want to just BS your way through. A differential gear set set-up wrong can fail at the worst possible moment causing a catastrophic accident...just my $.02. I hope this advice helps you out. |
