Gauge problems

Gauge problems
So I just bought an 89 XJ and the gauge cluster didn't worked when I bought the truck, the lady told me she had a friend working on the steering column so it was all just disconnected, negative I messed with the fuses a little and they worked for a min or two then stopped, any suggestions???
