Default Gauge Cluster can kill engine?

Have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Is it possible that a faulty gauge cluster will kill the motor after a few seconds? Jeep starts and idles. Dash Red light says " Check Gauges" and motor dies. I've heard a faulty cluster can do this, is it true?

You might ask in the Grand Cherokee forum https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5. A faulty cluster is extremely unlikely (probably zero) to CAUSE the engine to turn off. More than likely there is a root cause that causes the engine to die AND messes with the gauges. A bad PCM could definitely do that, but there are probably many other more likely problems.
