Default Gas tank leaks

Well i confirmed this morning that my gas tank is in fact leaking so its time to get a new one. I look at it and other then taking off 2 14mm bolts to remove the gas tank straps it doesnt look too bad is there anything else that may cause me grief? such as removing the sending unit or lines etc? Thanks,

Andrew

Hell just fill it full of gas and weld the spot that leaks.

Makes for a interesting light show.

I see Stryker seems to have caught the funny bug on here...
I'd maybe see if you could stick one of the late model plastic tanks in place of your original... And don't forget to get new straps as well, you're in there, might as well change them. I know the ones on my '98 were pretty crunchy, one of them even broke (ever notice that everything seems to break right after you fill up?). They're not all that pricey, but it's a good insurance measure.

is it the tank or the rubber hoses going into the tank from the filler and vent?

Also check you lines from fuel pump. I had one not connect right when I changed my fuel pump. Not sure what happen. But it leaked from top. Make for sure its your tank. If it is then try strykers first idea. Seems like it will work.

This turned out not too be so bad really. it was snowing and -9C and i mean really snowing which made it suck. The hardest part of this job i would say was removing the fuel pump. To anyone reading this who has to change there gas tank id recommend buying the straps before starting as well as getting a 1 large, 1 med, and 1 small hose clamp as a minimum. There probably rusty and you may need a set of vice grips to remove them.

That or JB Weld if it was a metal tank...
