Default Gas mileage to Heck

So it all started when we replaced the badly cracked header. One tank after the new header everything went south. The O2 sensors went bad and my XJ would barley run. Replaced those...now I am back to about 10 mpg. Here is another thing that bothered me....when we did the header there was a ton of carbon build up and the guys that helped me said to leave it there. That just seemed wrong but they are Jeep junkies and I took their advice. Now someone tell me how stupid that was. Any ideas on that gas mileage???

un plug your battery for about 30 min to an hour to let the computer reset this way it will relearn the way it should be running.

Quick question, since it seems to be the solution for a lot of things, does unplugging the battery reset the computer/sensors on all cherokees?

It works on all years that have a PCM. I don't know when that started, but I assume if you've got a CEL you've got a PCM.

Thanks everyone!! I took everyones advice. I changed plugs, wires, rotor and cap. Took the battery terms off to clean them up and left them off while I did other repairs. It is running even better now. I turned over 198,000 on the way home. I love my Jeep!!!
