Fuel tank locking ring question
I have to change the fuel pump on my xj, I was looking at the locking ring today and i don't see where I can seat the brass punch the ring looks mostly flush. Can someone describe how to best go about this?

My 99 looks like this.

I don't see any obvious tabs just a metal ring with some jagged triangular tabs on the inside ring but I'm pretty sure that part doesn't turn. it's definitely nothing like the second picture my 89 has a steel tank with plastic skid.

I found the tabs and started banging away at it counter clockwise and only succeeded in bending the tabs over... Then the rain started pouring. :hammer:
I'm going to hit it first thing tomorrow hopefully I won't need to drop the tank to wrestle the thing off. |
With mine (88) there were rectangle tabs that stuck out... There are also smaller quire ones but those bend easier
Put some wd40 on the outside first :) |
good idea!
EDIT: All done now. rockauto says the carter kit comes with a bosch OE pump, it didn't. |
