99 xj discarded heater core
I'm looking to find an old discarded XJ heater core for my 1999 Xj. I may have a custom brass one made for Michigan winters and I need a sample. Anyone know where I can find one? Or even better see the attached PDF for Part #: 399233 the last copper/ brass one made by Thermal Solutions Manufacturing.

Junk yard if it isn't any good they might only charge scrap price, if you get it before they scrap it.

I wouldnt trust an old heater core of unknown condition from a parts yard, even if it appears to be ok. Could have a pinhole. Unless youre going to test it at the yard, just buy a new one. I would imagine its cheaper than having one custom made.

It wouldn't matter if it has a pinhole if he's just using it for a model. However, I definitely agree that a custom one seems like extreme overkill - a new OEM style from a reputable manufacturer should last the rest of the life of the vehicle and won't cost a fortune.

The reason behind having one made is that none of the newer aluminum ones are trustworthy; I've read story after story of people who have spent 8-10 hours taking out the dash only to find the new aluminum (China made) core sprang a leak in less than a year. A company called Brassworks was quoted to make one for about $300 which is probably similar to the dealer's Mopar price(if they still sold them). A company called Thermal Solutions Manufacturing was the last to make an actual Brass/Copper core-see attached. I need an old core for "the mold".

Not to derail this thread.
But under certain circumstances radiators can be fixed. I have been meaning to go to a radiator shop and see if the same can be done with a heater core and/or an evap core.
Basically they are radiators right?

yes they can
I used to repair radiators for a semi body shop I worked for and rads for semi's were the only ones we repaired since they could cost thousands to replace, if it were a car we just recommended a new one if one spot rots there are going to be more.

I may still have my old one but its from a 2000. It was not leaking when I replaced it while fixing all my AC leaks. You can have it for cost of shipping to you. I just got to find it.

I don't think I have the part number unfortunately. It was branded as a Murray though - might be possible to find a NOS one

Great! Start looking and I will make it worth your while! At least what Amazon charges for a new one about $32 ( See attached) plus the 2 day shipping. I just checked on Amazon and a model 2000 will fit. I'm at syrinx7@msn.com
Thanks
